Welcome to the Transparency Collection, a channel for exploration of the fragility of perception and consciousness. This is a practice, a conversation and a developing way of seeing within subtle experiences. These are original drawings and paintings created within a framework of Observation, Connection, Rendering and Layering.
Observation
This is a multitude of moments mindfully observed in various spaces and times throughout a day. Plotting myself in any given space, I practice opening the aperture of my senses to offer steadfast presence and acceptance of others, listening and allowing.
Connection
This is an expansive embodiment of presence as I relate, connect and share with others. Whether 5 seconds or 5 hours daily over 5 years, I find the time connecting and the intersection of the connections boundless; there is no permanence of my ideas or images, space or time. Nothing is certain, everything is possible in its unfolding. We just are right now, like bubbles afloat and ephemeral, perceptually ever-evolving, and transcending rational judgement by showing up in this way.
Rendering
This is original artwork documenting connection onto transparent, breakable surfaces, mirroring arenderingofthe temporary and overlapping nature of our shared existence. The work is free-hand drawn, traced and intuitively painted. Each piece is created as a meditation on my experience with others and with attention to the quality of the illustration or painting. The renderings are intended to be viewed in an interactive environment.
Layering
This woven process of observing, connecting and rendering, and subsequently the physical layering of the interchangeable slides, creates infinite intersections of images. Throughout the layering may there be inquiry about the narratives we design, freedom in our playful and curious exploration and a sense of connection to others, transmuting barriers that prevent us from honoring the essence of one another.
May this framework and artwork be an offering of gratitude back to the subject illustrated and to you, the community engaging with it.
I invite you to explore and expand on the layers of your experience.
Best, Leah
